The exact conversion
1 ounce (oz) = 28.3495 grams (g) · 1 gram = 0.035274 oz. For workshop purposes, 1 oz = 28.35 g is accurate enough; balancing machines round further because their own resolution is 0.25 oz or 5 g.

Notice the two systems never align exactly: 0.25 oz = 7.09 g, not 5 g or 7.5 g. That is why gram-market and ounce-market weights are separate SKUs, not the same weight with a different label.

Machine settings: the 30-second check
- Match the machine to the weight's unit system - an oz reading fitted with gram weights overshoots by roughly 13% (28.35 vs 25).
- Machine in g, stock in oz? Multiply the reading by 28.35 and round to the nearest available segment. Never mix segment units on one wheel end.
- Record in the machine's unit. Fleet tyre records and warranty claims get messy when oz and g readings sit in the same logbook.
Buying across both systems
Distributors serving exporting tyre shops usually stock gram-market strips and ounce-market clip-ons in parallel - the two rarely substitute because machines display one unit or the other.
